“Down this twisted road, please watch over my soul and lift me up so gently so as not to touch the ground.”

The summer is hot and slow in a small, poor town in the American South, where a group of kids drift between the rail yards, a junkyard and an abandoned amusement park. George (Donald Holden) is among them, and when a game among the friends ends in a death, they decide to keep it to themselves. David Gordon Green, in his first feature, has Nasia (Candace Evanofski) narrate it all, and the film ends on the children, still in that town, still in the heat.
