Get Carter

“What happens when a professional killer violates the code? Get Carter!”

The police report says suicide, and Jack Carter (Michael Caine), a small-time hood working in London, doesn't buy it. He travels north to Newcastle for his brother's funeral, then starts knocking on the doors of his brother's friends, one at a time, asking who wanted him dead and why. Mike Hodges, making his first feature, films the city in flat, grainy daylight and lets Carter's questions pile up without comfort.
