“The Funk Don't Quit”

James Brown (Chadwick Boseman) grows up in extreme poverty and wants to become one of the most influential musicians in history. Bobby Byrd (Nelsan Ellis) and manager Ben Bart (Dan Aykroyd) help carry him from there toward the stage. Tate Taylor tells it out of order, following Brown's own memory and letting him turn to speak straight to the audience.
