Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell), a hapless analyst at the spy agency CONTROL, finally gets his shot at fieldwork when the enemy organization KAOS launches a massive attack. He's paired with the unflappable Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) to stop Siegfried (Terence Stamp) and his plot to detonate a nuclear weapon.
