Saravanavelu (Vijay), called Velu by everyone, is a university kabaddi player who spends his days on the practice ground. His life changes when he helps Dhanalakshmi (Trisha Krishnan), a young woman running from Muthupandi (Prakash Raj), the village strongman who has already removed her brothers and means to marry her. Dharani sets the two of them moving together, a stranger who owes her nothing and a girl with nowhere safe to go.
