Major Motoko Kusanagi (Atsuko Tanaka) is a cybernetically enhanced cop in 2029, working for Section 9, a unit called in when ordinary police cannot stop a crime. Mamoru Oshii sends her after a hacker known as the Puppetmaster, a trail that runs through other people's minds. Beside her is Batou (Akio Otsuka), the partner who watches her work and keeps pace.
