In Rome in 1986, a television studio is readying a variety show, and two aging music-hall dancers are brought in to appear on it. Amelia "Ginger" Bonetti (Giulietta Masina) and Pippo "Fred" Botticella (Marcello Mastroianni) once performed as Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, and now they meet again after several decades to do the act one more time. Fellini puts them together before the cameras, two people who share a stage and a long silence.
