Giordano Bruno
“UNTAMED... IN A DESPERATE BATTLE FOR FREEDOM! HE WAS DAMNED! THE STAKE THAT CONSUMED HIS BODY WILL BURN FOREVER IN THE CONSCIENCES OF HIS JUDGES.”
Venice shelters the philosopher, poet and scientist Giordano Bruno (Gian Maria Volonté) after he flees his enemies in the Catholic Church. It is only a partial safety, because the Roman Inquisition fears how far his ideas have reached in Europe and wants him tried for heresy. Giuliano Montaldo builds the film as a slow, deliberate case against one man, with Volonté at its center.
