“She has a lot to live up to. And a few things to live down.”

Imogene (Kristen Wiig) was a promising young playwright in New York until the career stalled and the boyfriend left. She fakes a suicide to win him back, and the hospital releases her into the custody of her mother Zelda (Annette Bening), a gambling addict living in New Jersey. Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini keep the camera steady and the jokes deadpan while Imogene sleeps in her childhood bedroom.
