“Nobody owns Tommy Riley. Nobody.”

Tommy Riley (James Marshall) wants to keep his head down at a new school in Chicago, but his father's gambling debts leave him needing money fast. After a street fight gets him noticed, the promoter Pappy Jack (Robert Loggia) pulls him into illegal underground boxing, where he meets Abraham Lincoln Haines (Cuba Gooding Jr.), a fighter chasing a way out. Rowdy Herrington stages the bouts in tight, crowded rooms, close enough that you feel each punch land.
