“Life begins at 3am.”

It's Christmas week in Los Angeles, and Ronna Martin (Sarah Polley), a supermarket clerk short on rent, takes over a shift for Simon Baines (Desmond Askew), a coworker who's headed to Las Vegas. His shift is the one that matters, because Simon also deals drugs, and Ronna agrees to cover that too. Doug Liman follows one night through three sets of characters, and Ronna and Todd Gaines (Timothy Olyphant), the dealer she steps in for, are bound together by the deal.
