Goin' to Town

(1935)Directed by Alexander Hall71 minComedy, Music
“MAE WEST Says: "I'LL BE A LADY, EVEN IF IT KILLS ME!"”

Nobody expects a dancehall queen to be left a fortune, least of all Cleo Borden (Mae West), whose fiancé is killed and whose inheritance includes a field of oil wells. The wells are run by the British engineer Carrington (Paul Cavanagh), and Alexander Hall's film follows Cleo as she decides she wants him and sets about becoming a lady to get him. She goes to Buenos Aires for the horse races and into a marriage for position, and she never stops being herself.
