Father Chuck O'Malley (Bing Crosby) wants to turn a run-down New York parish around, and he has the old life of sports, song and romance to draw on. First he has to win over Father Fitzgibbon (Barry Fitzgerald), the aging, conventional priest who has run the place his own way for years. Leo McCarey fills the parish with a gang of boys looking for direction, and the Robert Mitchell Boys Choir.
