Jacek (Zbigniew Cybulski) is a handsome young Pole who belongs to a drama company and charms his way through Gdansk. Then he meets Margueritte (Teresa Tuszyńska), a French girl who is every bit as charming and a good deal harder to read. Janusz Morgenstern follows the two of them through the city's streets, and his camera stays close to Jacek as he falls for her.
