Goodbye Lover

(1999)Directed by Roland Joffé102 min · RThriller, Comedy, Crime, Mystery
“No one's ever been so good at being so bad.”

Sandra Dunmore (Patricia Arquette) wants out of a marriage and into the arms of her husband's brother, Jake (Dermot Mulroney), an advertising man who drinks too much. Then a man disappears, and Sergeant Rita Pompano (Ellen DeGeneres) starts asking questions in a circle that includes Peggy Blane (Mary-Louise Parker). Roland Joffé directs it as a neo-noir with a comic streak, mixing the genre's old murder plot with the sleek look of a late-nineties city.
