Goodbye, Mr. Chips

(1969)Directed by Herbert Ross155 min · GDrama, Music, Romance
“He is a shy schoolmaster. She is a music hall star. They marry and immediately have 283 children...all boys!”

Arthur Chipping (Peter O'Toole), a prim schoolmaster at an English boys' school, meets Katherine Bridges (Petula Clark), a showgirl who sings for a living and talks without holding back. She draws out a warmth he has kept tucked away behind the classroom door. Herbert Ross and Terence Rattigan turn James Hilton's novella into a musical about how a reserved man learns to show his care.
