Goodbye Uncle Tom
“300 years of hate explode today!”
Gualtiero Jacopetti and Franco Prosperi appear in the film as two documentary filmmakers who travel back to the pre-Civil War American South, camera in hand, to film the slave trade as it happens. A narrator (Stefano Sibaldi) guides the viewer through the scenes, which are restaged with actors from published documents and records. The filmmakers stay in the same frame as the people they are filming, and the film keeps asking what that closeness does to the watcher.
