Goto, Island of Love

(1969)Directed by Walerian Borowczyk93 minDrama

Goto is an island cut off from the world by an earthquake, and nobody on it seems to remember how to leave or why they would want to. Gono (Jean-Pierre Andréani), a petty thief, climbs the island's absurd ranks for one reason: Glossia (Ligia Branice), the wife of the melancholic Governor-King Goto III (Pierre Brasseur). Walerian Borowczyk watches her, a stifled beauty in a loveless marriage, and the thief's longing for her.
