Graduate First

In Lens, in the north of France, a group of friends from working-class families are finishing school, and none of them says what comes next. Maurice Pialat follows Élisabeth (Sabine Haudepin) and Philippe (Philippe Marlaud) through the final stretch of those school years, as the adults around them talk about the region's lack of work. The film ends on the young people in that unemployment-scarred region, still trying to forget their fears of tomorrow.
