“Only crows will cry when I die!”

In the black markets of postwar Japan, Rikio Ishikawa (Tetsuya Watari) is a small-time thug who can't stop picking fights. He gets taken in by the yakuza and climbs into the organization fast, backed by his sworn brother Kozaburo Imai (Tatsuo Umemiya). Kinji Fukasaku shoots it in rough, grainy handheld, as though the camera were stumbling through the same streets Rikio does.
