Finnegan Bell (Ethan Hawke) is a young artist who wants one girl, Estella (Gwyneth Paltrow), and the life that seems to come with her. Alfonso Cuarón moves Dickens out of Victorian London and into contemporary New York, with Joe (Chris Cooper) and Ms. Dinsmoor (Anne Bancroft) among the people who shape Finn's path. As his talent draws attention and his future opens up, he starts to put everything he has into becoming someone Estella cannot overlook.
