Great Expectations

“Prepare for a life of great expectations.”

Pip (Jeremy Irvine) is an orphan who wants to be a gentleman and, more than that, to be worthy of Estella (Holliday Grainger), the cold, lovely girl he has loved since childhood. When the lawyer Mr. Jaggers (Robbie Coltrane) says a secret benefactor will pay for his rise, he leaves for London. Mike Newell stages Dickens's story around what Pip stands to lose, which is his own decency.
