“A Fiery Girl Who Dares The Dangers Of The Sea And A Savage Land... Fighting For The Love Of A Bold Adventurer!”

Marianne Patourel (Lana Turner) loves William Ozanne (Richard Hart), but so does her sister Marguerite (Donna Reed), and William loves Marguerite. Timothy Haslam (Van Heflin), a carpenter, loves Marianne without telling her, and a fight that ends in a death sends him to New Zealand, where William soon follows. Victor Saville builds the story around what each person wants, who gets it, and how long they carry the rest.
