“Cute. Clever. Mischievous. Intelligent. Dangerous.”

Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan) receives a strange creature called a Mogwai as a Christmas gift, along with three strict rules: keep it away from bright light, loud noise, and water. When Billy breaks the third rule, the Mogwai spawns dozens of mischievous gremlins that tear through his small town. Joe Dante orchestrates the chaos with the precision of a magician, cutting between the destruction and the townspeople's panic.
