Grumpy Old Men

“The best of enemies until something came between them.”

Nobody in the neighborhood can say when John Gustafson (Jack Lemmon) and Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) stopped being friends, only that the insults and pranks between their houses have run for decades. Then Ariel Truax (Ann-Margret), an attractive widow, moves in nearby, and the old feud turns into a contest for her attention. Donald Petrie plays it for naughty jokes and schoolboy mischief, with Burgess Meredith as John's scandalous father.
