Gundermann

Gerhard Gundermann (Alexander Scheer) drives a coal excavator in East Germany by day and writes and sings songs at night, and he is known for both. Andreas Dresen follows him through the GDR years, when Gundermann's own dealings with the Stasi, and with a Führungsoffizier (Axel Prahl), begin to weigh on his music and his working life. The film sets his livelihood, his songs and his name against what the secret police know about him.
