“All The Heart and Happiness of The Broadway Play”

Rose Hovick (Rosalind Russell) is a stage mother who has decided her daughters will be vaudeville stars, and she hauls them from one small-time booking to the next. Mervyn LeRoy adapts the Broadway musical, with songs by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, around Rose's hunger and the shy Louise (Natalie Wood) standing in her shadow. Louise stands under the lights in the burlesque house, the stage hers at last.
