“When you follow your own beat, the world will follow you.”

In Baltimore, Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) is a plump teenager who wants one thing: a spot on The Corny Collins Show, the city's most popular TV dance program. Adam Shankman stages her audition and her quick rise as a musical, and Tracy uses her new fame to push for an end to the show's segregation. At home, her mother Edna (John Travolta) rarely leaves the house, and the film keeps asking whether she will come out for her daughter.
