Hamlet

(1948)Directed by Laurence Olivier153 minDrama
“The motion picture of all time ... for all time!”

At the royal court of Denmark, the prince Hamlet (Laurence Olivier) is still in mourning when his mother, Gertrude (Eileen Herlie), marries the new king, Claudius (Basil Sydney). Olivier directs and plays the lead himself, adapting Shakespeare's tragedy for the screen, with Felix Aylmer as the court chamberlain Polonius. Hamlet moves through the palace in black, grieving and watchful, a young man the whole court expects to move on.
