“Passion, Betrayal, Revenge, A hostile takeover is underway.”

Hamlet (Ethan Hawke), a film student in present-day New York, wants to prove that his father's death was a murder and to make his uncle answer for it. That uncle is Claudius (Kyle MacLachlan), who has taken his brother's place and married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude (Diane Venora). Michael Almereyda keeps Shakespeare's language intact, and the one person Hamlet might trust is Ophelia (Julia Stiles), who is already caught between him and her own family.
