Regi Allen (Carole Lombard) trims and polishes fingernails at a hotel salon, and she has made up her mind to marry a rich man and get out. Her plans are complicated by Theodore Drew III (Fred MacMurray), a charming loafer with no money who is engaged to a fortune and has the same scheme. Both of them are sure that marrying money is the practical choice, and what they feel for each other is the one thing neither budgeted for.
