George Harvey Bone (Laird Cregar) is a London composer who wakes with no memory of the night before and a bloody knife in his pocket. On the advice of Dr. Middleton (George Sanders), he goes out to hear the singer Netta Longdon (Linda Darnell), and he is soon writing songs for her instead of finishing his concerto. John Brahm sets the story in turn-of-the-century London, where the blackouts keep coming and Netta's hold on him tightens.
