Walter Thirsk (Caleb Landry Jones) arrives in an insular village where the seasons have stopped turning and the crops refuse to grow. The townspeople, led by Master Kent (Harry Melling), regard him with suspicion, then calculation, as whispers spread about what strangers might be worth. Tsangari tightens the frame until Walter's presence becomes the thing the village believes it can sacrifice to break its hunger.
