“The Wonderful Pulitzer Prize Play … becomes one of the Great Motion Pictures of our Time!”

In a 1950 small town, Elwood P. Dowd (James Stewart) tips his hat to every stranger and introduces them to Harvey, his best friend, a six-foot-three rabbit nobody else can see. His sister Veta Louise Simmons (Josephine Hull) decides the family has had enough and takes him to a sanatorium. Henry Koster, working from Mary Chase's play, films the rabbit as an ordinary guest and lets Stewart talk to the empty space beside him.
