Head Against the Wall
Nobody will say what is wrong with François Gérane (Jean-Pierre Mocky), only that his wealthy father wants it cured, and so the young man is signed into a psychiatric hospital. Georges Franju, in his first feature, puts Dr. Varmont (Pierre Brasseur) and Dr. Emery (Paul Meurisse) in charge of the wards, with Heurtevent (Charles Aznavour) among the patients. The film keeps asking how a society decides who counts as mad, and who gets locked away for it.
