“Talent wins races. Courage creates champions.”

Jack Murphy (Michael Shannon) is an army vet who takes over a dysfunctional rowing team during its last year at an Ivy League college in 1999. His oarsmen, among them Alex (Alexander Ludwig) and Chris (Charles Melton), are close friends who have never pulled together as a crew. Michael Mailer follows one season in which every seat in the boat is on the line, and so are the friendships of the men sitting in them.
