“Sex. Love. Marriage. Some people don't know when to quit.”
In 1980s Washington, Rachel (Meryl Streep), a magazine writer, falls for Mark (Jack Nicholson), a newspaper columnist with a playboy's habits, and gives up her career to marry him and start a family. Mike Nichols adapts Nora Ephron's novel, which draws on her own marriage to Carl Bernstein. The film takes a plain look at what happens when someone builds a whole life around a person who keeps one foot out the door.
