“When you take justice into your own hands, what are the consequences?”

The police have ignored every plea to arrest the man behind her husband's death, so Philippa (Cate Blanchett) takes the matter into her own hands. Then she is the one in custody, charged with murder, and facing an interrogation conducted through a translator, the young officer Filippo (Giovanni Ribisi). Tom Tykwer, working from a script begun by Krzysztof Kieślowski, ties her fate to his, and neither of them has much room left to lose.
