“Not all angels are innocent.”

In 1950s Christchurch, New Zealand, the quiet, brooding Pauline Parker (Melanie Lynskey) meets Juliet Hulme (Kate Winslet), a precocious new arrival whose family has just moved to town. Peter Jackson follows the two girls as a shared love of fantasy and literature grows into a bond neither family can break. They write and invent together, and the world they make is larger and brighter than the house Pauline goes home to.
