Nothing in Helen's life explains why it has stopped working: she has a loving family and a successful career, and still she cannot get through the day. Helen (Ashley Judd) turns to Mathilda (Lauren Lee Smith), a kindred spirit living with bipolar disorder, and Sandra Nettelbeck films their friendship in Vancouver. Helen keeps going to her, because Mathilda is the one person who does not ask her to look fine.
