Tom Healy (Anthony Quinn) just wants to keep his two-wagon theater troupe afloat, but the creditors keep catching up because Angela Rossini (Sophia Loren), his leading lady, can't stop buying clothes. In Cheyenne the audiences clap, so they stay, and Angela keeps the theater owner on a string while the gunslinger Clint Mabry (Steve Forrest) takes notice. George Cukor shoots 1880s Wyoming in rich Technicolor, with the costumes and painted sets filling every frame.
