In a quiet stucco house in an ordinary neighborhood, Henry Poole (Luke Wilson) has moved in to be left alone and to wait out what he believes are his last days. His neighbor Esperanza (Adriana Barraza) spots a water stain on his back wall and insists it shows the face of Jesus, and a crowd starts to follow her. Mark Pellington keeps returning to the stain, a dark patch on pale stucco that Henry will not look at.
