Why does a young woman in Havana's grimy underworld keep her eyes on a friendly sailor? Frankie (Helen Twelvetrees) works the dives of the waterfront, and Dan (Phillips Holmes) is the first man in a long while who treats her kindly. Tay Garnett, drawing on the old ballad of Frankie and Johnny, sets it among the cheap bars and the sailors passing through.
