“One man's strength will unite an empire.”

Nameless (Jet Li), a minor district prefect, wants one thing: to stand close enough to the King of Qin to be heard. He earns the audience by claiming he has killed the three assassins who nearly took the king's life three years ago. Zhang Yimou and cinematographer Christopher Doyle frame the palace in vast halls and saturated color, and across them Broken Sword (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) and Flying Snow (Maggie Cheung) stay bound to each other.
