Patrick O'Malley (Tom Selleck) is a hard-drinking biplane pilot in the 1920s, and his luck has run thin when Eve Tozer (Bess Armstrong), a spoiled heiress, hires him to find her missing father. Her money pays for a rattling trip across Asia in an old biplane, and it pulls them toward a Chinese warlord. Brian G. Hutton keeps the camera up in the open air, where the planes and the light do most of the work.
