Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), a basketball star at East High, meets Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) at ski lodge karaoke and discovers they can sing together. Back at school, they both audition for the spring musical, a move that shocks their separate social circles. By the final performance, Troy and Gabriella learn that the people around them matter more than staying in their lanes.
