“They're at each other's throats when they're not in each other's arms!”

Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell) walks into the newsroom to say she's quitting, engaged to a mild insurance man named Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bellamy). Her ex-husband and editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant) has other plans, and Howard Hawks lets the two of them talk over each other like an argument they both enjoy. Underneath the scoop is a plain question of whether two people who can't stop working together can stand to be apart.
