Home from Home – Chronicle of a Vision

Nobody in the village of Schabbach can say why so many families are leaving the Hunsrück, or what draws them toward a country on the far side of the ocean. Jakob Simon (Jan Dieter Schneider) lives among them from 1840 to 1844, in the Simon household with Gustav (Maximilian Scheidt), Margarethe (Marita Breuer) and Johann (Rüdiger Kriese). Edgar Reitz shot most of it in black and white, with a few scenes in color, and everything the Simons own is on the line.
