Homebound

“No feeling is final.”

Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa) grew up together in a small North Indian village, and both want the same thing: a police job, and the dignity that has always been kept from them. They sit the exam side by side, each leaning on the other while the wait stretches on and their money thins. Neeraj Ghaywan, working from a 2020 New York Times article by Basharat Peer, keeps the film close to the ground and to the two men's faces.
