Bob Gold (Joe Mantegna) is a homicide detective who has spent his career as the one cop on the squad nobody mistakes for one of the group. When he's pulled off a fugitive case to look into the shooting of an elderly shopkeeper, David Mamet has him follow a trail that leads toward a Zionist organization and a heritage he has mostly set aside. Gold keeps pushing at the case, and the case starts to push back at him.
